Analysis
The main point is up front in the topic sentence.
The topic sentence contains three controlling ideas that are underlined.
The second sentence bridges the ideas in the topic sentence to the supporting sentences.
The support makes the topic sentence clear and convincing.
The support provides specific and concrete details.
It is not always easy to recognise unity within a given composition. There are three tests of checking for unity
1) Define the main topic.
2) Distinguish what is relevant to the main topic from what is irrelevant to it.
3) Keep the minor topics subordinated to the main topic.
Coherence
The major characteristic of a good composition is coherence. If a composition has good coherence, then all the ideas seem to "stick together" or cohere, rather than jump abruptly from point to point. A coherent composition moves smoothly and logically from one idea to the next, and its sentences seem to "flow" from one to another so easily that the reader doesn't waste time wondering what the connection between one idea and the next is. Everything needed is already present, and each section is clearly linked to the topic sentence or the thesis statement. Order is the key factor in establishing coherence within a paragraph or composition.

In order to achieve coherence, we have to be able to place sentences and paragraphs in a logical order. This can be established with the help of smooth transitions between sentences and paragraphs by using connective words.

I know that there are objections to my decision to become a social worker. Specifically, there is the big one my father points out money. I know, of course, that a woman has to make a living but, as I tell him, a woman doesn't need more than her tastes require. He says, in good nature, that I don't know how expensive my tastes are, that I have had lots of privileges I don't even recognise as such, for example, coming to this kind of college. It doesn't do much good to reply that, even though, I have had it easy, I want something beyond that easiness of life. You see, he cuts me off here, and says that I have a good hard logical mind and a person isn't happy unless she is using her best talents, and that, consequently, I should go into law or something like that to use mine. Undoubtedly, my father is right, generally speaking. He himself, in fact, has used his talents, for he is one hell of a good corporation lawyer, and is happy in his business. But I am me.
