Essay Topic: robert frost, fire
Thesis In the poem "Fire and Ice", by Robert Frost I believe the author was using vivid Imagery to describe how the world would end. By using Fire and Ice in his poem he is also making reference to the human nature of man. In this Paper I will be exploring the ways fire and ice are used to convey the passionate and the rational.
"Fire and Ice "talks about what must people are thinking about right now. How are human beings going to destroy the planet? From many they believe it will be by fire from heaven or will it be in blast of "ice," like a nuclear winter. Robert use of fire to represent passion is very beautiful it captures the essences of what passion is. Passion" is meant to be closely associated with love. Of course, love has many other sides obligation, fondness, and accountability, to name a few. But passion is one of the most important open response to being in love, and it's also the most hypothetically destructive. You can think of passion as a huge store of energy that can be directed in many different ways. "Fire and Ice" argues that, if directed in the wrong way, passion could bring about the end of the world. There are other kinds of passions than sensual love you can desire a pair of shoes, for example but romantic passion is probably the most powerful and worst.
Many have looked at the fact the fire is not bad way to go in the end, a blaze of passion. In the beginning of the poem we do not that "Fire and Ice" is about human nature until we here the speaker talks about fire as a desire and passion. Ice is a whole another level of destruction that is shown of the way the world would end. Some have predicted that if a nuclear strike would hit the planet we could be in a new ice age. Ice is a reputation of the cold, calculating and bitterness that can be found in the world. Many people think that Robert got the frozen waste land of earth from Dante's Inferno. In the last Layer of hell in Dante Inferno we see that the worst of the worst is here frozen in ice. Hate, pure cold hate that will consume many and is the most fatal and hurtful. The speaker of the story even seems indifferent on which way to go on how the old should end.
In the end we see that either way you look at this poem, the destruction of the earth is unavoidable. Some believe Frost spoke to a scientist and asked him how the world would end. The scientist told him either the sun would have exploded scorching the earth or earth drifting in to space freezing from not having the sun near. Passion and hate are two evils of the same coin in which one or the other will take humanity down if not Kept in check
