Abstract
The discovery of differences in the culture of France and America, are very few. France and America are similar, for example, the clothes, music, and technology. On the other hand, in France, the greetings lifestyle, government, and health care are different. In health care, France has a different approach for paying for treatment. If a patient from France came to America for treatment, payment would need to be discussed. Therefore, France and America have differences in their cultures.
France Diversity
France has a long history France goes back to around 1000 B.C., when Celtic tribes relocated into the regions of northern Europe (Lehman 656). Going forward to 1815, after Napoleon was overpowered at Waterloo, France was led first as a constitutional monarchy and then as a republic (Lehman 657). France has a large population and counts for 13% of Europe's population ("Society" pg. 1). The religions in France are Roman Catholic (88%), Muslim (%10), Protestant (%2), Jewish (1%), and unaffiliated (4%) ("Society" pg. 1). I am interested in France because I took a few French classes in high school. I find that the French culture is interesting.
France and America are pretty similar, there are a few ways they are different. When greeting someone, even a stranger, French people kiss each other on the cheeks this is called "Faire la Bise" which means to kiss. The more times a person kisses their cheeks, the better acquaintances they are. In America, people simple shake hands or hug. The lifestyle in France is a bit different, businesses are not open as long, and they take time off for holidays, and cuisine is taken seriously. There are more pharmacies than fast food restaurants. France has a French Republic government, and the Prime Minister is the head of the government.
If there was a client in the dental office that was from France, I would communicate to the client that a patient exam is not free. In France, health care is paid for from taxes, and covers mostly all the costs except for major treatments. Children and teenagers from ages up to 18 years old are entitled to a free checkup. Any treatment required in also free, up to age 12, depending on the dental office in France (Patel pg. 33). In America, treatment is paid for by the patient or covered partly by insurance. To ensure communication to them I would help them understand that the dental treatment is more expensive here. In France a filling is a little less than 50 euros, which is about 55 dollars in the United States (Health pg. 11). In America, fillings can be from 50 dollars to 150 dollars. For payment, the patient pays the dentist and then gets a reimbursement from the state healthcare system.
France and America have differences in their cultures. There are a few ways that these countries display their differences. America and France have different greetings, lifestyles, government, and health care.
