How it feels to be an interior architecture student, 501 words essay example

Essay Topic: student, architecture

As an aspiring young designer myself, my passion and interest has grown over the past few years. Growing up as a teenager and living in the urban areas in Selangor, Malaysia, I am constantly being surrounded and awed by amazing buildings, houses, monuments and spaces in my homeland. Interior architecture has always been the pathway for me to express my visions, creativity and thoughts as a young designer. During the past few years, I have definitely learnt more about design, environment, the history of architecture and importance of spatial awareness. I believe that I am prepared to take a step further, venture off and apply my knowledge and skills that I have learnt throughout my foundation year, and join my fellow interior architecture students. With this course, I will be able to expand my creativity and knowledge and be a step closer to reaching my goals whilst growing and learning new things along the way. I believe interior architecture is the interaction between people and space and the awareness of spatial and human behaviour. How do people view a space and how we designers, view it differently. As humanity is progressing into a more developed world, designs are rapidly changing to accommodate the trends and lifestyles. Designers should also progress in new ways such as, using environmental friendly technologies to minimise the negative impact on our environment, and act as problem-solvers. We as designers should be able to communicate not only with clients but with other design disciplines such as architects, furniture designers and etc. I believe it is crucial for all interior architecture students to have passion, vision, creativity and patience. I believe I hold all of these aspects and more. During my foundation year as a design student, I have been taught to express my ideas through illustrating and sketching which are 2D and to build that idea into a 3D form which sometime consists of human sculptures and figures, masks, and even a figure made out of household items. Moreover, my foundation year as a design student has shaped me into a better communicator and speaker. I have not only learnt to speak in front of my lecturers and peers but carried out several spontaneous interviews with strangers to test our communication skills. As I have dealt with a lot of group projects over the past few years, my leadership skills has improved over the past few years and I believe teamwork is an important aspect to succeed in this course. As a future interior architecture student, I have learnt a lot in my previous course, to name a few I have dealt with colour wheels, using only 3 colours to complete a colour wheel of 24 colours, arranging and pairing colours that are in contrast with each other and complementary. For my final group work, I have done 3D comic strips and built a human figure out of plastic food wrap and mah-jong paper. From design school I have learnt to overlook beyond the surface and interpret my understandings.
