KNOWLEDGE OF SENTENCES AND NONSENTENCES
To remember and stored an infinite set of sentences would need an infinite storage capacity. However the brain is limited, and even if it were not, we could not store the novel sentences which are well novel. An inventory and rules of vocabulary is limited, but the formation of sentences using these vocabulary and rules are infnite. Lets say if the sentences were formed simply by placing one word after other in any order, then language could be defined simply as an amount of words. In our knowledge of a language it determines which strings of words are wellformed sentences and which are not. By knowing the words we also have to know the rules which form the senteces. Moreover, a language at that time consists of all the sounds, words, and infinitely many possible sentences. The moment when you know a language you will know the sounds, the words, and the rules for their combination.
LINGUISTIC KNOWLEDGE AND PERFOMANCE
Linguistic knowledge permits us to apply longer and longer sentences by joining sentences and phrases together or adding modifiers to a noun. Even though we stop at three, five or eighteen adjectives, it is impossible to limit the number we could add if wanted. Knowing how to produce sentences and applying them in real life are two different things. Moreover it is also shows the difference between what we have know, which is our linguistic competence, and how does we use this knowledge in actual speech production and in comprehension, which is our language presentation. Usually all the speakers of all languages have the knowledge to understand and produce sentences of any length. Even more better there are physiological and psychological reasons that have limited the number of adjectives, adverbs, clauses, and so on that we acuatlly produce and understand. The moment we speak, we usually wish to convey some message. At certain time when we produce a speech we have to organize or thoughts into strings of words. Its may happen when we a in stammer, or pause, or produce slips of tongue. Linguistic is unconscious knowledge, it is because the linguistic system the sounds, sturctures, meaning, words and rules for putting them togethernis acquired without knowing it. To understand, to make judgment about grammaticality shows that we have the knowledge of rules of our language.
GRAMMAR
The term grammar is used with a orderly uncertainty. On the other hand the terms refers to explicit theory constructed by the linguist and proposed as a description of the speakers competence. Its also refers to this competence itself. (Noam Chomsky and Morris Halle, The sound pattern of English 1968). In addition the grammar of the language is consist of sounds and the pattern of sounds, basic units of meaning like words and its combine to all rules of these to form sentence with the anticipated importance. Beside that to understand the nature of the language we have to understand the internal structure that forms every grammar and every language.
