My perception of Captain Ahab in ‘Moby Dick’ Essay

In this paper I plan to discuss,That one of the main characters in Herman Melvilles book Moby Dick, Captain Ahab is clearly something in between a Promethean and Satanic figure.On the other hand, explain how Ahab could possibly be the protagonist that Melville wanted to present in the novel. Furthermore, how Melville undoubtedly made Ahabs character fit into the novel as a whole in view of the fact that, the novel is revolving around Ahab and his own personal madness and vendetta with the whale Moby Dick, in the course of taking his crew on his own tragic ending journey, which is the ultimate judgement Ishmael and Herman Melville are trying to make. Captain Ahab, in the novel Moby Dick is a significant character, He is the Commander of the whaling boat the Pequod , the journey all began when while on a whaling mission , Ahab's leg was gnawed off by the infamous white whale Moby Dick, and following the time since then, Ahab has concentrated just on the reprisal he will get when he kills Moby Dick. Hence, animosity maybe being the reason of Captain Ahab's multiple personalities. However, It is the customary thought that Captain Ahab bestows the uncommon wicked elements like that of satan, However, I feel the true Ahab is revealed clearly through the text
As for the men, though some of them lowly rumbled, their fear of Ahab was greater than their fear of Fate. But as ever before, the pagan harpooners remained almost wholly unimpressed or if impressed, it was only with a certain magnetism shot into their congenial hearts from inflexible Ahab's.(Melville 423).
Here, is when we see what true dominance that Captain Ahab has over his crew members the kind in which when In adoration with his contempt, he is the most menacing sort of commander. The kind who, puts fear in the hearts of his own allegiant harpooners, an insidious Captain for when he falls brings the entire crew of harpooners down with him, I say this only to state that a person who sacrifices others for their own personal gain shows that Captain Ahab contrasts some sort of evil traits. However, knowing this I notice in Ahab's situation he pervades his character to form into evil ways with remorse and In some sense, then, he manifests the malevolentconstitutive traits such as antisympathy to a greater degree where he no longer has control over it. In contrast, with his evil ways Ahab shows signs of a Promethean figure, its even acknowledged in the novel Chapter 44 The Chart, the fact that his thoughts have created a Prometheus like creature within his mind and heart, I have the impression the narrator only indicates this because it is the inevitable truth when the words are spoken
God help thee, old man, thy thoughts have created a creature in thee and he whose intense thinking thus makes him a Prometheus a vulture feeds upon that heart for ever that vulture the very creature he creates.(Melville 168).
