The Birth Of Cricket!

Cricket..Yes! Cricket the most played and loved sport all around the world nowadays. It has many lovers or I vocalize Die hearted lovers which are always passionate towards this game. But the thing which is obscure about cricket is. where it came from? What is its origin? Because it's still hidden. No one knows about the genesis of cricket. A number of words are thought to the possible sources of the term "Cricket". The word may have been derived from Dutch word Krick(e), meaning a stick or may be from old English word Cricc or cryce means a crutch or the French word criquet meaning a wooden post. But it's not obvious where it really came from probably its origin is lost somewhere in the mists of time. But there is a reference in the household account of King Edward I in 1300 of game much like cricket being played in Kent.

The Earliest Definite Reference of Cricket.

The game of cricket itself is thought to have been played as early as 13 century. In 1598 a court case in England relating to an ownership dispute over a plot of common land in Guildford. Surrey mentions the game of 'Creckett', a 59 years old coroner. John Derrick testified that he and his friends had played creckett on the site fifty years earlier when they attended the free school. Derrick's account proves beyond the reasonable doubt that the game was being played in Surrey in1550 and is the earliest universally accepted reference to this game. But the first recorded cricket match was played in 1646, and by the late 1600s.

Cricket gradually grew in popularity until, in the 18th century, it was named the official sport of England, being the favored leisure activity among the privileged class.

Establishment Of the Laws.

The basic rules such as Bat and Ball, the Wicket, Pitch dimension, Overs, how out etc have existed since time immemorial. But actually in 1744, the laws of cricket are codified for the first time. then amended in 1774. In which lbw, middle stumps and maximum bat width etc such things were added. These laws stated that "the principals shall choose from amongst the gentlemen present two umpires who shall absolutely decide all disputes". The codes were drawn up by the socalled "Star and Garter Club". Whose members founded MCC(Marylebone Cricket Club) at Lord's in 1787. MCC immediately became the custodian of the Laws and has made periodic revisions and re codifications subsequently.

The Beginning of International Cricket.

The first ever international cricket match was played between the USA and Canada in 1844. The match was played at St George's Cricket Club in New York.

In 1859, a team of leading English professionals set off to North America on the firstever overseas tour and, in 1862, the first English team toured Australia.
Between May and October 1868, a team of Australians Aborigins toured England in what was the First Australians Cricket team to travel overseas.
