The city development since postmodern era, the new treatments in fashion sphere of re-use, the interruption in districts, are forming two ways of thinking or two strategies for preserving the historical part of the industrial heritage. In this way of thinking, other buildings which are built nowadays could be analyzed as potential buildings for new functions in the future. Careful renovation, environmentally-friendly preservation and sustainable reuse are necessary components of sustainable development of the buildings and cities a as a whole. Sustainability is forming the new era of our environment.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
The importance of history and the rising value of the historical and cultural heritage are increasing. The relationship between economy, people, environment and the built environment is inevitable in every city. Sometimes tackling the renovation of a building is more complicated than building a new one, not only because of the historic value of the part that must be preserved, but also because of the state of the structure itself since we rarely know what condition it is in before beginning the project. Furthermore, the act of working on an existing building is a challenge for any architect since it means developing adaptive strategies that are very different from those that would be developed for a new construction. On the one hand architects are trying to combine society necessity on the other hand, they make the connection of the structure with the new strategy. During the years a great number of architects understood the most important principles in the relationship between existing buildings and new possible functions for them. In this world we have to learn how to live in harmony with the earth and with the buildings that already exists, in the new way that they are being beneficial for humanity.
MOTIVATION
Every industrial building keep a history in itself and the intervention should be careful and eligible. This required dynamic, adaptable and capable transformation. Contemporary architecture should respond to the needs of the society and local community. It is interesting what happens in the building sector when it is moving from a model of management of production towards a model of management of resilience. The needs of every place are changing with the years, so the location is connected with the adaptation. The design work always refers to the culture, the people, and the place.
Everyone have a role in the sustainable development of the cities. As an architect I can renovate and design places and buildings, making them centers for new activities, which is an interruption in the existing and improvement for the society. As a researcher in architecture I can use facts and examples and explain what kind of interruption should be done for more progress in the society.
