In general, breakfast is quite important in Colombia and Poland. People usually eat breakfasts between five and eight a.m. and they are generally heavy. Breakfast consists of fruit, eggs, a slice of ham, bread and fruit juice, coffee or hot chocolate. In Poland between ten and twelve in the morning, people may have a second breakfast like brunch in the United States. Usually it is a salad or sandwich. However, in Colombia between twelve and two p.m. people have a lunch. The main meal of the day in both countries is a dinner. A traditional dinner in Colombia consists of a soup, a main dish, also a drink and sometimes a dessert which is very sweet, but a delicious. In a big city, the dinner often will be served around seven or eight p.m. In Colombia the most common a main course is chicken soup, bandeja paisa, lechona and fritanga. The chicken soup includes chicken, kinds of potatoes, sour cream, capers, corn, avocado and guasca. The bandeja paisa is a huge mixture of food. It consists of grilled steak, fried pork rind, chorizo sausages. It is served with rice and red beans. However, the lechona consists of a whole roasted pig, stuffed with rice, yellow peas, green onions and spices which is cooked for ten hours in a clay oven. In my country, dinner is the main meal of the day. It is served between two and five in the afternoon. It consists of a large bowl of soup and a main course. Traditional Polish cuisine features many soups, for example zurek, red beet borscht, beef tripe soup, chicken broth, cucumber soup, cabbage soup, barley soup, pea soup and many others. The most recommendable a main course are stuffed cabbage, pierogi and bigos. The cabbage leaves are usually stuffed with ground meat and rice or barley. Stuffed cabbage is usually served with a tomato sauce or mushroom. Pierogis are popular in Poland. They are stuffed with ground meat, cabbage, or potatoes and cheese or fruits. However, bigos is combination of cabbage, mushrooms, meat and sausage or bacon. You can also add dray plums. All the ingredients must be slow cooked for a very long time.
A few decades ago, most people in Poland and Colombian were farmers. They grew their own food and raised animals. They made the own food like bread, milk, butter, flour, cooking fats. They could make of the dishes by themselves. They used a simple tool in their kitchens and everything was made by hand. Nowadays, most people buy foods in a grocery store or a supermarket. Sometimes people buy organic food from farmers. People who have time to cook use many modern kitchen appliances like microwave, food processor, blender, stove and many other small tools. According of conversation with my partner, I found out from my partner that in his country usually woman make food while man work. They do not use a microwave to reheat food because they always eat freshly made food.
