4.3 PRIMARY RESEARCH
The primary research approach is empirical, meaning that secondary data is not enough for this research. The primary data were gathered through surveys and structured questionnaire-based interviews.
4.3.1 SECONDARY DATA
The purpose of the secondary data research was to define the concept of medical tourism and validate the six objectives. The researcher chose to research medical tourism before researching the six objectives to be more aware of the topic. The next step was to analyze the collected data of some studies and articles to help build a solid study. Finally the researcher read and researched the collected data and divided the search in units, each unit was one objective.
To accomplish this books, Internet, articles and statistics were analyzed. The method used for all this information was a deductive approach.
4.3.2 PRIMARY DATA
The purpose of the primary data research was to analyze the six objectives deeper. Find more valuable data regarding the topic. Due to the lack of literature on this topic, the researcher focused on the primary data. There are two different options to collect data, quantitative data and qualitative data. Both options were used in this dissertation. The quantitative statistics focused on the numbers and data that could be measured, while the qualitative statistics are data that represents feelings, thoughts, ideas, understanding and descriptions that could be observed.
In collecting primary data different methods were used including, a survey and questionnaire-based interviews. The interviews were very effective because the questions gave a more complex matter and information on the topic. Due to the lack of recent information that can be found, the interviews helped discover new information that would be impossible to find otherwise. That said the disadvantage of interviews is that it is the opinion and expert knowledge of one specific person, the interviewer. The surveys were an easy and successful way to obtain a view of the general knowledge and opinions on medical tourism. The challenging part about the survey was to not lose too much time by focusing on the right people to answer the survey. 4.3.3 RESEARCH INSTRUMENT DESIGN
The researcher considered the aim and the objectives of the study when preparing the survey and interview questions.
Due to the fact that the literature on the subject wasn't easy to find, the research instruments had to provide the researcher with a lot of new data and specific details. Objectives for the primary research were to build extra knowledge to the topic regarding medical hotels and financial opportunities as well as to make recommendations for the future.
